Specified donor trusts

In specified donor trusts, family members, relatives, and others entrust assets such as cash to trust banks and other institutions to facilitate a stable life style for persons with particular disabilities (serious mental and physical handicaps, medium-level intellectual disabilities, and second- or third-level mental disabilities).
Trust banks and other institutions administer and invest the entrusted assets and provide regular cash payments for living and medical expenses of persons with particular disabilities.
With this type of trust, the funds are exempt from gift tax up to JPY60 million for persons with particular disabilities (those with serious mental and physical handicaps) and up to JPY30 million for persons with other specific disabilities (those with medium-level intellectual disabilities or second or third level mental disabilities).
